On Wednesday 15 June 2011, at the FCCN offices in Lisbon, DFN (represented by Torsten Kersting - left of picture) and RedIRIS (represented by Ajay Daryanani - right of picture) presented signed copies of the eduGAIN Declaration to the GÉANT eduGAIN service's operations team (represented by Tomasz Wolniewicz of PSNC/PIONIER).
The eduGAIN Declaration is the central component of the eduGAIN Policy Framework, and is the most important step in participating in the GÉANT eduGAIN service. This occasion marked the presentation of the first eduGAIN Declarations, a significant milestone in the operation of the service.

The GÉANT eduGAIN service enjoyed a very successful pilot service phase, with participation by thirteen of Europe's nineteen identity federations. The service entered production in April 2011; the pilot service participants are expected to transition to the production service by the end of September.
GÉANT eduGAIN is a key service developed within the GEANT project, which enables the trustworthy exchange of information related to authentication, authorisation and identity between the GEANT Partner's federations."
